Atlus reveals free pre-order bonus soundtrack CD for Legacy of YsTM: Books I & II

Experience the revered music of Ys with this limited edition companion disc

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA – DECEMBER 30, 2008 – Representatives from Atlus today stood silently before assembled members of the gaming press for an estimated 30 to 40 minutes, headphones in ears, listening to the Legacy of Ys: Books I & II soundtrack. Following the awkward delay, it was then announced that the game’s renowned musical score would be offered as a free pre-order bonus at select retailers.

Epic in melody and arrangement, the Ys Books I & II soundtrack has long been considered one of the greatest video same scores ever created. Originally released in an era when many games used music simply to avoid stretches of silence, Ys offered a sweeping emotional score, building on action and tension to provide players with an altogether potent experience. As relevant today as ever, the freshly arranged music CD still manages the same level of excitement and energy, and stand as a testament to true excellence in game music.

Internet Superstars: The Game Conference Game

Game recovered from 1976, release to benefit Child’s Play

BALTIMORE, MD – A group known as Internet Superstars are donating their proceeds from a flash game to Child’s Play Charity.

In 1976, a company called Internet Superstars (originally ARPAnet Superstars) released a game called “The Game Conference Game.”  It details a person’s quest to get a job in the video game industry by attending “The Game Conference” and telling everyone about their cool game idea.  First made for the PDP-10, the game was later ported for systems such as the PC and Commodore 64. It was later found that the disks used for the game were of low quality and went bad.  Less than 10 years after it’s release, the game existed only in the minds of it’s fans.

Earlier this year, a working copy was found.  The finders took up the discarded mantle of Internet Superstars. They decided to donate all revenue from the game to Child’s Play Charity which donates video games to children in hospitals. The revival was done in Macromedia Flash and is playable by most computers with a web browser. Chris Best, Lead Excavator, said  ”We decided on Flash so that gamers everywhere could enjoy this classic. [The Game Conference Game] has been hailed as a serious game version of rogue” and added, “donating everything to Child’s Play has made what we’ve done here much more important.”

The Game Conference Game can be played for free at  http://www.internet-superstars.com/games/GCG/

iPhones at Walmart | Los iPhone en WalMart

If you did not get an iPhone for Christmas and are most likely ready to get one for yourself, then you can buy one at a Walmart store near you starting tomorrow. Though Walmart claims to be the “always low prices” store, you may still find it cheaper at Best Buy. The prices at Walmart will be $197 (8GB model) and $297 (16GB model). If you do want to save a few more dollars, take your Best Buy ad for Walmart to match the competition’s price of $189.99 (8GB) and $289.99 (16GB). Why doesn’t Walmart lower the price from the start is still unknown. Just don’t expect to find a 4GB iPhone at $99.

Video service for your Wii | Servicio de videos para tu Wii

Nintendo has been catching up in features other consoles have been offering already. So, what is Nintendo going to do now? Offer shows through the Wii console. Now that lots of people have gotten used to the Nintendo Channel in order to watch previews and other game-realted videos, the company will take the next logical step. According to Reuters, what it’s known so far is that both Nintendo and Japanese ad agency Dentsu haven’t announced what specific programming will be accesible, but mentioned cartoons and original shows will be available on the video distribution service starting in Japan early next year and later overseas.

However, this news leads to some other questions that still remain unanswered: How are users going to store the shows on the Wii if the space (512MB) is not even big enough for just a few TV shows on SD or HD? Will this mean a Wii hard drive is also on its way? If not, will we instead have to rely on SD memory cards?
