About the video:
The video contains a selection of areas that augment the main action in FINAL FANTASY XIII-2. This includes a range of side quests that the player can engage in, where completion will yield different rewards. Players will also find unique puzzle sections that Serah and Noel must solve during the course of their main quest to find Lightning. Serah and Noel will also traverse the new location “Serendipity,” a casino-style area with a variety of games to play including slot machines and the return of FINAL FANTASY fan favorite, Chocobo Racing.

Also included in the video is footage of Captain Cryptic’s “Confounding Quiz,” where the player must eavesdrop on the citizens of a certain city for clues as to his whereabouts, and crack his confusing conundrums to win a special reward.

2012 is an important year for the gaming industry. Many of the franchises are turning 25 this year. Though not many of them were available to us yet here in the United States, there were in Japan. Besides Double Dragon and others, there is also one franchise that has thrived along the decades bringing us great moments in role-playing games history.

Capcom has announced the date for the release of Capcom Digital Collection. Although it’s a collection of already-released games via Xbox Live, for retro gamers who still don’t own any or a few of these games, it’s a great opportunity to get them. The North American retail version of this game will be on sale starting on March 27th for the Xbox 360.

While the back of the box (as seen on images at Andriasang.com & ZeldaInformer.com) mentions the ability to buy extra content, the front of the box does display a new Nintendo logo not officially revealed before.s the

Will the Nintendo Network be a response to Sony’s PSN and Microsoft’s XBL?

We already know the Nintendo Network @ E3 as the site that shows us videos from E3, and the Nintendo eShop as its online store for games, demos and more content.

Nintendo also already owns the nintendonetwork.net domain [ex.: http://3dphoto-contest.nintendonetwork.net/], but that’s not all.

According to NintendoEnthusiast.com, an anonymous source has said Nintendo will launch a new network similar to the ones by its rivals. Perhaps it could be one of the things we’ll hear at Nintendo’s upcoming conference on the 26th, a ZeldaInformer.com post states. At NintendoEnthusiast, the paragraph says: “A source that wished to remain anonymous has told us that Nintendo will launch a website accessible from any web browser that will handle configuration of your Nintendo Network account for use on the Wii U or 3DS. He also stated that Nintendo Network will include many new features that haven’t been used before by Nintendo. According to his accounts: Nintendo Network = Sony PSN = Xbox Live.”

There is already a game that connects us to Nintendo Network it seems: Mario Kart 7.

El cierre de Megaupload: ¿Otra vez SOPA?

En el día de ayer, en medio del controversial debate por la ley antipiratería online, el FBi cerró Megaupload, el sitio mas popular de carga y descarga de archivos, ¿pura coincidencia?

Después del famoso “Apagón” en contra de SOPA, que mostró a grandes sitios de Internet con portadas en contra del proyecto de Ley y luego de que éste perdiera apoyo dentro del congreso, la Oficina Federal de Investigaciones (FBI) anunció el cierre del más popular sitio de descargas.

De la mano con esta medida, se ha detenido a 5 de sus ejecutivos, acusados por las autoridades de ser parte de una organización criminal de piratería mundial. La detención se produjo en Nueva Zelanda, y entre los acusados se encuentran su fundador Kim Dotcom (también conocido como Kim Smith), el jefe de marketing y ventas, el diseñador gráfico del sitio, el jefe de desarrollo de negocios y el jefe de programación. La justicia de Nueva Zelanda deberá tomar la decisión de extraditar o no a los Estados Unidos al fundador de la compañía para ser juzgado.

¿De la mano con la Ley?

Las autoridades señalaron que esta decisión nada tiene que ver con el proyecto de ley, ya que la investigación lleva más de dos años y hace dos semanas atrás se aprobó la actuación de la policía. En los distintos informes que presentaron para validar la acusación se encuentran un mail enviado por Google Adsense a Kim Dotcom, asegurando que en los contenidos del sitio se pueden encontrar links hacia obras con copyright y que debido a esto ellos no podrían seguir trabajando en forma conjunta, acusación que llevó a la compañía a crear su propia proveedora de servicios de publicidad. Por otra parte, se han presentado conversaciones entre los miembros de la compañía donde los mismos aseguran que no ser “piratas modernos” sino sus proveedores de “transporte”. A la compañía se la acusa de generar más de 175 millones de dólares en beneficios provenientes de esta actividad ilegal, generando pérdidas por más de 500 millones de dólares a los propietarios de los derechos de autor.

Si bien, al parecer las pruebas validan la acusación, dentro de Megaupload los usuarios no pueden buscar enlaces a contenidos con copyright, quiere decir que los links dentro del que transgreden las normas de derechos de autor han sido compartidos por terceros. Para esto, la compañía creó el denominado “abuse tool”, una herramienta que permite señalar los links que están infringiendo la ley, siendo removidos o bloqueados por su propio sistema.

La reacción

El grupo de piratas informáticos Anonymous se ha atribuido el hecho de haber dejado fuera de línea, tras ser bloqueadas, a las páginas Web del departamento de justicia de los Estados Unidos y de la productora Universal Music, entre otras. A este accionar se lo ha denominado “Operación Represalia”.

Por otra parte, y esta vez a favor, el gobierno francés ha felicitado a la justicia de los Estados Unidos por la decisión de cerrar el sitio de descargas.

Megaupload en cifras

La compañía, fundada en 2005 por Kim Dotcom (dueño del 68% de la compañía) cuenta con más de mil millones de usuarios, representando al 4% de internet. Según las acusaciones hechas por la justicia de EE.UU, la mayor parte de los ingresos recibidos fueron por medio de PayPal, servicio utilizado para recibir el pago de las cuentas Premium, en tan solo 5 años han recaudado más de 110 millones de dólares por parte de los suscriptores.

Por otra parte se han calculado más de 40 millones de dólares en transacciones bancarias entre cuentas de la compañía, que incluyen desde hospedaje hasta alquiler de yates. Entre los documentos presentados por el FBI se descubre que la compañía de pagos online (competencia de PayPal) Money Bookers ha transferido pagos a Megaupload por mas de 5 millones de dólares. En publicidad, de parte de Adbrite recibieron 840 mil dólares. Los ingresos de los sitios afiliados suman cerca de los 25 millones de dólares.

The new trailer highlights the epic storyline found within SOULCALIBUR V. The tale of Patroklos, son of Sophitia Alexandra, unfolds as his family’s destiny intertwines with the Soul swords.  New screen shots of alternate character outfits are also available to download as well. SOULCALIBUR V will be available in North America for both Xbox 360^® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and the PlayStation^®3 computer entertainment system on January 31, 2012.

What he doesn’t seem to see well is the symbolism or the real message behind the motive.

The Internet vs the MPAA

SOPA is a flawed bill. It’s a fact people at the MPAA does not get to clearly identify. Wanting control of the Internet by asking the government to bypass the DMCA and be able to shut down sites as they see fit is unjust and unfair. There are no military or national security issues involved in this.

I’m opposed to piracy, but I also don’t want to lose my rights in the Land of the Free simply due to certain commercial purposes.

ICE has already shut down sites that do not have any copyrighted content, but that serve as links to the mentioned material. With SOPA and PIPA, any blog could be shut down because it that does not satify a company’s point of view. The target, according to the bill, are pirates, yet the bill is going to cause tremendous damage to all Internet users at large, whose first amendments rights would not apply.

Now Senator Dodd, via a press release, states: A so-called ‘blackout’ is yet another gimmick, albeit a dangerous one, designed to punish elected and administration officials who are working diligently to protect American jobs from foreign criminals. It is our hope that the White House and the Congress will call on those who intend to stage this ‘blackout’ to stop the hyperbole and PR stunts and engage in meaningful efforts to combat piracy. [http://www.mpaa.org/resources/c4c3712a-7b9f-4be8-bd70-25527d5dfad8.pdf].

Is Senator Dodd asking us, US citizens, to sacrifice our first amendment rights to simply catch foreign movie pirates? Does he think there’s something more important than what we the people call freedom of speech? As CEO of the MPAA, he thinks so without caring for our rights. Our rights are not a gimmick.

Will the MPAA want to control how many times we can use the DVDs we buy or the number of people allowed at homes to watch a movie at once? Well, that sounds like SOPA 3.0 or 4.0 if this bill ever becomes a law.

Many people want jobs, and we thank the film industry for hiring talent in front of and behind the cameras, and for the fun movies it brings, but people do not want to lose their rights. I love movies btw.

What coud happen with SOPA and PIPA

Movie and music companies could make a list of web sites for ISPs to block, therefore creating an Internet Blacklist.

If someone shares links on Facebook to watch movies or listen to music for free, that account could be closed.

If I were to post my thoughts about movie preview and my opinions get to be mostly negative about it, and I decide to embed the preview on my one post, my entire blog could be inaccessible due to an infringement request by a movie company, without even asking. Similar to what happens to YouTube users who get three strikes (I know) and the account gets suspended, the same fate could happen; in other words, even without three strikes, you’re out. The internet address of your blog would enter into the Internet Blacklist, but the IP address (those sets of numbers separated by periods, like 192.168.0.1) would remain intact.

The MPAA shoud concentrate on web sites that have their content illegally. Once a site is shut down, would people share links on Facebook, Twitter and Google knowing it’s no longer accesible? No.

A complete new education about the Internet and how it works plus and a thorough re-evaluation are needed by the ones supporting both bills.

SOPA could be interpreted in many ways. It’s subjective. It’s broad. It’s still based on last-century thinking.

I don’t want to see this post ever: “This post has been removed from Facebook due to copyright violations of the SOPA and PIPA laws.” Or something like the image below. Do you?

I would feel like an online illegal alien if this bill becomes law because I would not be able to blog. How would a company recognize who blogs for fun and who blogs for real? or who blogs because s/he loves to do it? or because one’s a journalist? If both bills become law, I may have to remove pictures and videos of people at cosplay competitions at anime conventions, or of friends and family at parties.

I don’t want SOPA (nor PIPA).

Perhaps a day we don’t want to remember ever again but will still happen in about a week and sometime next month. The freedom of the Internet is at stake. A bill that if it becomes law would hurt Internet users more than to people who does piracy. SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP Act) can change the way we surf on the Internet and turn our freedom of information into a limited national network.

While companies do have a right to protect their intellectual properties, the online freedom of expression of the people of the United States must not be sacrificed at all.

A single copyrighted material could shut down an entire site, either overseas or in the US (many US companies do have businesses and offer services in other countries like YouTube and Amazon).

Blogs, online forums, social networks, search engines and basically all types of web sites could be in danger of being shut down simply by sharing a picture of a celebrity, a screenshot of  a product, or a video of a child’s birthday party with background music.

An Internet censorship is not a solution to the problems of privacy. A totalitarian tactic by certain companies and associations for their own control of the Internet is not an effective solution. No private company or organization should have control of the Internet. Period.

The process of shutting down web sites with SOPA and PIPA would technicallly bypass the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. SOPA and PIPA are a threat to online speech, technological innovation, and online security.

Shutting down Google would take me back to the beginning of the Internet, an Internet without search engines or social networks as we know them today.

I do agree completely with the opinion of the White House. It’s against piracy and also favors freedom of expression. “We will not support legislation that reduces freedom of expression, increases cybersecurity risk, or undermines the dynamic, innovative global Internet” says on the WH post. In Internet meme lingo, it’s like it tells Chuck Norris to send an arrow to the knee to SOPA.

The Internet was created as a means to create and share information, not to censor content as others see them fit.

I strongly oppose SOPA and PIPA.

It was very hard during the years of the 8-bit games and arcades (mid-80s to early 90s) to establish game franchises, and even harder to continue with them as technology has been advancing while trying to make them still relevant today. Like Mario and Zelda recently, the Street Fighter franchise will turn 25 this year. Capcom has not revealed any of its plans to celebrate this amazing feat, but at least we get to see this cool logo.

In spite of the little amount of news In its last major presentation at CES 2012, Microsoft announced the arrival of Kinect sensor for Windows.

Starting on February 1, the sensor will go on sale in 12 countries at a price of $ 249 in limited quantities and will be accompanied bythe software development kit (SDK) for commercial use and will work with Windows 7 and the pre-release version of Windows 8known as the Developer Preview.

I wonder how gaming would look on an 84″ TV with 3D capabilities and 4k display (4 times the pixel count of 1080p). Known as the LM9600, this Ultra Definition (UD) 3D TV looks like a high-definition TV ready for the next generation of videogames and movies. Not only is 4k-capable (3480 x 2160), it also comes with dual-core processing, and Smart TV applications that work via voice recognition and motion-controlled. There isn’t much content at this resolution, though people can see videos of that quality on YouTube.

With Mobile HD Link (MHL), consumers can connect (hardwire) compatible mobile devices to the TV to charge and play its content (launch apps, games or access multimedia files) on the big screen using the Magic Remote to navigate. Finally, this year’s Smart TV dashboard will be customizable so consumers can navigate and personalize their interface by putting their favorite content options on the main page.

Complementing its broad Smart TV line, LG also introduced two LED series featuring LG Smart TV with Google TV (LMG860 and LMG620). Consumers can navigate through LG’s TV-centric home dashboard, or via the standard Google TV interface using a special remote control that combines the simplicity of the Magic Remote with an integrated QWERTY keyboard to access the broad array of Google content, including services and TV applications from the Android Market.

CINEMA 3D is Here to Stay
Due to its success in 2011, CINEMA 3D technology has been expanded to seven new series of LED HDTVs, all told 25 models. LG CINEMA 3D employs the revolutionary Film Patterned Retarder (FPR) technology to give viewers a great 3D effect and uses glasses that don’t flicker like active shutter glasses. It also virtually eliminates cross-talk to help provide a more comfortable 3D viewing experience. The 3D glasses are battery-free, affordable and don’t shutter open and closed so both eyes receive an image simultaneously. Getting Interactive
LG’s Dual Play function takes gaming to new levels of excitement. Many multi-player video games rely on a split-screen to show each player’s perspective. However, Dual Play enables each player to enjoy a full screen view (in 2D) simultaneously through two different sets of polarized glasses.

Also on display will be the LG PenTouch plasma TV (PM6900). Particularly useful for families and businesses, the PenTouch plasma TV allows users to draw and write directly onto the display panel. Using a newly designed touch pen, users can do so through a variety of applications, including those for illustrations, photo editing and PowerPoint presentations.

Shigeru Miyamoto is one busy man still doing what he loves best… creating videogames. Though someday he will retire, it won’t be anytime soon. As seen on an interview via ZoomIn.TV, Miyamoto is currently working on some games, including Pikmin 3 for the WiiU, Luigi’s Mansion 2 for the 3DS, and on an undisclosed original title. We’ll have to wait, maybe until this year’s E3, to find out more.

Miyamoto also explains in this interview why he doesn’t prefer photo-realistic graphics in games: “”I’m not saying that I am particularly bad at making the very photo-realistic video games, but when it comes to the realistic games, you have to create something familiar. I personally want to make something really different.“

As an iconic game figure well-known for his speed and former Mario rival, Sonic is looking for insurance savings…. and FAST!!! While Geico has a mascot of its own, Progressive turns to Sega to call out the attention of people to get auto insurance. Who knew insurance companies offer special coverage for all the things he destroys while battling MechaSonic or Dr. Robotnik. ESPN, EA SPORTS and College Football Analyst Desmond Howard Unveil New Virtual Technology at Full Sail University Sports Lab Powered By ESPN

WINTER PARK, FL, January 4, 2012 –As part of their ongoing collaboration, Full Sail University joined with ESPN’s Emerging Technology team and EA SPORTS to unveil ESPN’s newest virtual technology application: EA SPORTS GameView. College football analyst Desmond Howard provided a demonstration of this augmented reality, which was filmed on location at the Full Sail University Sports Lab Powered by ESPN. This new technology is airing during ESPN’s Bowl Championship Series this season.

Through the use of this virtual technology, ESPN analysts have total control of a play on a 70-inch touch screen built into a tabletop, which allows them to move 3D virtual players of their choice, run plays they choose, zoom in, rotate the field, and telestrate all in real-time using a suite of tools at their fingertips. Also included with the GameView technology is the ability to breakdown multiple plays simultaneously.

“This technology is another way to bring fans deeper into the game and allow them to understand decisions being made by players and coaches, as delivered by our world-class talent who have played in the game,” said Anthony Bailey, Vice President, Emerging Technology, ESPN.

A select group of Full Sail faculty, students and graduates were present to help develop the technology, and prepare the Full Sail University Sports Lab Powered by ESPN for the first demonstration of the application. Over fifteen students were given the opportunity to work as part of the crew during the week-long production. In addition, Computer Animation graduate Jason Black and Digital Arts graduate Erik McGrew returned to campus and were on-hand as concept developers for ESPN.

“We’re prerecording a virtual shoot for Desmond Howard who’s doing a BCS Bowl rundown,” Black said. “What we’re doing here is helping with an interface where they can use a touch screen to move EA Sports players around. We’re working in the Sports Lab and I used to have motion capture projects in there. It’s definitely surreal.”

A game from the MS-DOS generation makes its return in the form of a remake. Infamous Adventure brings back Roger Wilco in Space Quest II: Vohaul’s Revenge, a comic sci-fi adventure game with a taste of Star Trek.

The game was originally released in 1987 and is available now for free. It is one of six games in the series created by Scott Murphy and Mark Crowe while working for Sierra On-Line. Back then, Sierra launched many adventure games in that generation such as Police Quest (I-III, Open Season, SWAT Series), Leisure Suit Larry (I-VII), and Space Quest (I-VI).

The FAQ section of their site explains how the project began, and shares the opinion of Murphy about the remake. “I’m impressed that you’re all putting so much into through your passion for adventure games. It’s great to know there’re people like you guys out there. You and your team have my blessing. I can certainly appreciate that kind of spirit,” says Murphy.

Space Quest II Remake Trailer

In the Americas, Europe and Japan, people have gotten the chance to play Shenmue, an interactive open-world adventure game, during the Dreamcast and Xbox generations.

Even though the first game received great reviews and accomplished high sales, its sequel Shenmue II was not a financial sucess, and plans for the conclusion of the series were put on hold. Later plans, from 2004 to 2006, for an MMORPG (PC) called Shemnue City did not take off.

Recently, a social mobile game based on Shenmue launched by Sunsoft in late 2010 has been cancelled. On Dec, 26, it was announced that Shenmue Gai had come to a close. The game never got to see its PC browser version that was planned. On the official site of developer YsNet, the company thanks all its fans.

The list of companies and organizations that support SOPA, the Stop Online Piracy Act, keeps getting shorter. EA, Nintendo and Sony Electronics are no longer on the list.

While music divisions of Sony still remain on the list, Sony Electronics might have already decided to stay away from SOPA in advance due to any upcoming threats from Anonymous at its SCEA division. Yesterday, Anonymous posted a video on YouTube threatening Sony for its support of SOPA. The PlayStation Network was brought down by hackers and affected many users who depend on the service for online gaming. The latest list was updated in late November, according to Electronista, but it became known today that the mentioned companies dropped out of SOPA.

The proposed bill could hurt the Internet as we know it due to stricter rules affecting users who share videos and pictures and to services that host web sites. Companies, with consent from the U.S. Government, could shut down or block sites because of copyrighted materials on their services. Sites with no such material but link to them could also be shut down.

Will this be good enough for Sony Computer Entertainment to avoid another hacking attack to its PlayStation Network?

Sony’s newest portable gaming system didn’t get to keep up the high number of its first-week sales in its following week, and its titles experienced a similar fate as well.

According to Media Create, no PlayStation Vita title made it into the top 20 or 30 in the Japanese gaming market, but a few were able to make it on the top 50.

At 37, Everybody’s Golf 6 (aka Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational ) was the first PS Vita title in the list, followed by Uncharted at 40, Dynasty Warriors at 44, and Lord of Apocalypse in 49th.
