MBAOnline.com: “A Day in the Internet”

[EN]: I received an interesting email from Jenica Rhee with a link to a great infographic about the current state of the Internet. The infograph explains the power and influence of the Internet for people and businesses. It is worth taking a real look at this graphic. Read the following paragraphs for more info.

As more and more business is conducted online, more and more business opportunities are created due to the massive size of the internet. Companies like Amazon, Apple, and even Walmart are giants in e-commerce and their online revenues are continuing to soar. Last year, e-commerce raked in $680 billion worldwide. And on Black Friday alone, Amazon sold 32 items per second.

With the help of services like Facebook, Twitter, and email, companies are able to reach practically anybody on the internet – all 6.8 billion of them. Those pursuing an MBA will definitely need to consider the shear size of the internet when making their future business decisions. And the numbers behind the size of the internet are staggering. In fact, they’re almost unbelievable.

PlayStation®2 Sales Reach 150 Million Units Worldwide

PlayStation®2 Continues to Deliver Great Value To Users as a Home Computer Entertainment System with Games for the Whole Family

TOKYO, Feb. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Sony ComputerEntertainment Inc. (SCE) today announced that the cumulative sales of PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system reached 150 million units*(1) worldwide, as of January 31, 2011. This incredible milestone was reached in 10 years and 11 months since PlayStation 2′s release in Japan in March 2000.

With strong support from 3rd party developers and publishers worldwide and a slew of blockbuster franchises from first party studios including Gran Turismo, God of War, SingStar*(2) and Ratchet & Clank, PlayStation 2 features a vast library of more than 10,828 software titles, representing a broad range of game genres that appeal to everyone in the family. More than 1.52 billion units of PlayStation 2 software have been sold worldwide*(3).

PlayStation 2 was also successful in delivering intuitive game play through the highly popular DUALSHOCK 2 controller as well as through Eye Toy USB Camera, released back in 2003*(4). Using EyeToy Camera, players can physically interact within the game with their own image being projected to the TV monitor in real-time. It also tracks the users’ hands or body movement through the camera. This new style of gameplay expanded PlayStation 2′s users to a wider audience, including families and casual players.

Furthermore, PlayStation 2 was the first home computer entertainment system to integrate DVD technology, and the rapid growth of the install base helped establish DVD as the standard optical disc media format worldwide. Despite almost entering its 12th year since launch, PlayStation 2 system continues to serve as the entertainment centerpiece in many living rooms and is strongly supported in countries and regions, particularly in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and South America.

SCE will continue to further expand the PlayStation platform and create a new world of computer entertainment.

Happy Birthday, PS2!

From/De: Sony Computer Entertainment America

Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. (SCEA) pops the cork on its ninth anniversary of the PlayStation®2 (PS2™) computer entertainment system, which has been the benchmark for innovation in home entertainment systems since its debut on October 26, 2000.  At the time of its inception the PlayStation 2 system broke all preconceived notions of what a video game experience could offer, serving as an entertainment hub for the whole family with its integrated DVD/CD technology and online connectivity.  Nine years later the PlayStation 2 system is still making its way into living rooms around the world and welcoming a new generation of gamers, some of whom were not even born when the system launched.

In fact, one in every three U.S. households own a PlayStation 2 system and nearly 140 million people around the world can attest to its great entertainment value, making it one of the world’s most popular video game systems.  The PlayStation 2 system is responsible for pushing the envelope by introducing popular franchises like God of War®, Gran Turismo®, Ratchet & Clank® and METAL GEAR SOLID®, which are continuing to make their way into the hands of new gamers – young and old.  One such franchise, SOCOM, took clear advantage of online game play and connectivity via the PlayStation 2 system.  As a result, the SOCOM franchise has become one of the most played of all time, with over 530 million online hours logged since the debut of SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs in 2002.  This equates to an incredible 60,000 years of online play.

The PlayStation 2 system’s library and fan base continues to grow every day. In the U.S, more than 500 million software units have been sold for the PlayStation 2 system and more than 485 developers have helped to develop for the platform since its launch.. This number will undoubtedly continue to grow.By the end of this fiscal year, nearly 10,000 titles in total will be available to PlayStation 2 system owners around the world, including new family-friendly and social games from our first party studios such as Jak & Daxter: The Lost Frontier™, Motorstorm®: Arctic Edge and Secret Agent Clank™, as well as third party titles like Bakugan® Battle Brawlers™, EA SPORTS FIFA Soccer and WWE®.

With nine years under its belt, the PlayStation 2 system shows no signs of slowing down and at $99 (MSRP), it still offers hours of fun for the whole family. The PlayStation 2 system is well on its way to delivering ten years of value to consumers and will continue to serve as a testament to the leading innovation and unbeatable entertainment the PlayStation brand provides its consumers.
