Happy Birthday #47, Star Trek!

“Star Trek”

[EN]: Today is a special day for fans of Star Trek The Original Series: the 47th anniversary of the airing of Episode 1, Season 1 of Star Trek, seen on NBC.

It is amazing how a TV show has impacted us in some way or another, not only about the future of technology seen in the series, but by what we as humans could be able to accomplish one day: global peace on Earth and space exploration.

When it comes to space exploration though, we are still far from it, as well as far from achieving world peace. We still have to take care of many issues in our lonely planet first. We should all get along before making the kind of space exploration, to explore strange new worlds and frontiers.

If you’ve seen the TV series, you may want to watch the first episode of the original series all over again, The Man Trap, on the Star Trek web site: [http://www.startrek.com/watch_episode/r4FoPLplOIV6].

A few sounds are missing, a few voices are muted, and the video resolution changes as well when seen on the web site, (fix this, CBS, please!), but it is worth watching this series that has made TV history and so much more.

“Live long and prosper.”

“Larga vida y prosperidad.”

Star Trek, Final Fantasy VII & Batman: The Animated Series: Anniversaries!!!

[EN]: There are three franchises this week celebrating their anniversaries once again. In their own right, they say hurray because  they know they have made us truly happy throughout the years.

Star Trek: Today ST celebrates its 46 anniversary. Though 46 is not as special as 45 or 50 or other numbers, it does show how relevant the series has been since it was first brought to TV. For many people, their favorite ST movie still is the one with Ricardo Montalbán in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. That movie has lots of action scenes. It was also Montalbán’s best movie ever, according to critics.

If you stop by Google.com today, you will see the original cast of Star Trek, including, Kirk, Spock, Uhura, Chekov, and others. Don’t just see it, click on it. And try to find the tribbles.

Batman: The Animated Series: Its 20th anniversary was two days ago, yet for many people young and old, this is perhaps the best animated version of the Dark Knight thus far, and also one of the best American-made animated series ever. It currently airs on The Hub. The entire franchise has been successful, not just in films but also in movies and videogames, though it has been absent as a TV series since the late 1960s.

Final Fantasy VII: Perhaps the best Final Fantasy game. It arrived to the US exactly 15 years ago today. It was the first FF to arrive to a platform other than the Nintendo ones. Because the CD stored much more data than N64 cartridges, it was an obvious choice for SquareSoft (the former name of Square Enix) to make that transition. The game was fantastic and it’s the one many fans would like to see a remake of. It was recently released on PCs and it includes achievements. Though I can’t make up my mind as to which FF is the best one yet (either FF7 or FF6), FF7 on the PlayStation let us explore cool worlds , with great narrative and awesome characters.

[EN]: For us gamers who love Star Trek, we still have to boldly wait many months for the release of this video game, but it’s great to see a trailler and concept art. I have to say this looks amazing so far.

President Obama & Nichelle Nichols do the Vulcan Salute | El presidente Obama y Nichelle Nichols hacen el saludo Vulcan

[EN]: I’m not sure if President Barack Obama is a fan of videogames, but he sure is a Trekkie. Last month, during Black History Month, Nichelle Nichols, well-known actress because of her famous role as Uhura in the Star Trek films and TV series, got to see the President as the White House. Both Obama and Nichols have made history in their careers, one as the first African-American President ever and one as the first African-American actress in a primetime TV series portraying a character in a professional role, in this case as a Lieutenant. While the President has been seen doing the Vulcan salute a few times before [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yW7OPByRGDY], this was the first time he’s done it at the White House with Nichelle. This is a great moment of pride for all.

On Twitter, she posted: “A photo came to me in the mail that I’ve kept for myself for over a week, but now it’s time to share it with Trekkers everywhere -.” Two tweets later, she posted the following photo. On Facebook, she also said: “On Feb 29, 2012 I was honored to have the chance to meet with President Obama in the Oval Office. I always knew that there was a reason that I liked him so much! Live Long & Prosper!”

¡Larga vida y prosperidad!”.

Patrick Stewart will lend his voice for “The War of the Worlds” game | Patrick Stewart prestará su voz para el juego “La guerra de los mundos”

[English]

We’ve seen him on Star Trek: The Next Generation (the TV series and movies) as Jean-Luc Picard from 1987 to 1998, and on the earlier X-Men movies as Professor Xavier since 2000. Now, Other Interactive will be bringing the voice-over talents of Patrick Stewart on the game based on the classic novel written by H.G. Wells, The War of the Worlds. The sci-fi novel describes the narrator’s experiences as he travels through London during a Martian invasion in the 1950s.

This is not the first time Stewart lends his voice to a videogame. Last year, he was the narrator on Konami’s Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. The game The War of the Worlds will be available for Xbox Live and PlayStation Network sometime later this year.

Sir Patrick Stewart Lending his Voice to Upcoming The War of the Worlds Video Game

Beloved star of the stage and screen will narrate unforgettable side-scrolling experience, coming to Xbox LIVE® and PlayStation®Network

Emeryville, CA – June 13, 2011 – Other Ocean Interactive is proud to reveal that Sir Patrick Stewart, the acclaimed TV and film star, will be lending his voice talents to The War of the Worlds, its upcoming cinematic side-scrolling platformer, coming to Xbox LIVE®Arcade and PlayStation®Network. Based on the classic novel by H.G. Wells, The War of the Worlds showcases Stewart’s distinct voice as the narration for the game, which follows one man’s experience in 1950s London during a decimating alien invasion.

Known to millions for his role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the popular TV show Star Trek: The Next Generation, as well as his performance as Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men film franchise, Stewart has enjoyed tremendous success over his decades-long film career including several Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.  However, providing narration for The War of the Worlds is an experience that hearkens back to Stewart’s childhood.

“As a young boy, I remember watching the The War of the Worlds so many times I was quoting the lines,” said Stewart. “The alien invasion both terrified and fascinated me and the movie has stuck with me since then. Now, being part of this project will provide a new way for gamers around the world to experience a fresh new take on a classic.”

The War of the Worlds is a dark and breathtaking new vision inspired by the classic H.G. Wells novel, retold as a single player, 2D action-adventure. The gameplay narrative parallels the timeline and events from the 1953 movie adaptation, but introduces a new story arc, characters, locations, and sub-plots.  With gameplay paying homage to classic cinematic platformers such as Flashback and Out of This World, players follow the exploits of an unknown everyman struggling to escape the Martian invasion of London and rescue his family. Forced to think through insurmountable odds, players will outsmart an army of alien tripods, spiders and drones as they make their way through a landscape of total devastation.

The War of the Worlds will release for Xbox LIVE Arcade and PlayStation Network later in 2011. For more information, please visit Other Ocean’s website at www.otherocean.com.
