Windows 10, a free upgrade even for pirated copies of Windows 7 and 8

Microsoft announced today the upgrade to Windows 10 will also worked on pirated computers, but that does not mean users with such copies will get away with licensed copies. According to an article by Reuters, users with non-genuine copies who upgrade their Windows 7 and 8 computers to Windows 10 will still keep their status as non-genuine.

“We are upgrading all qualified PCs, genuine and non-genuine, to Windows 10,” said Terry Myerson, the one in charge of Microsoft’s Windows unit, in a phone interview with Reuters.

The main reason for this decision has to do with software piracy in China where 75% of all PC software is pirated while 90% of Microsoft software that gets pirated.
