[EN]: Today in history, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System was launched in its home territory of Japan on November 21, 1990. Through the console’s lifetime, Nintendo sold more than 49 million boxes of its 16-bit game system worldwide.

Nintendo launched its game system known in Japan as the Super Famicom months after the release of the Sega Genesis game system, which became Nintendo’s first serious competitor in the 16-bit war of consoles. Sega already had experience with its 8-bit home console, though it was no match for Nintendo until the arrival of Sega’s 16-bit console and its famous mascot, Sonic the Hedgehog.

Many of the franchises we play today were born during this generation for the SNES, with such titles as Mario Kart, Super Paper Mario, Donkey Kong Country, Star Fox, and Pilotwings. Even such popular titles like Final Fantasy and Mega Man continued on Nintendo’s console.

If you’ve played SNES games, which ones would you play today?
